Heat oven to 375 degrees F
Trim bottoms of 4 firm ripe pears
Stand up right in baking dish just large enough to hold them.
Drizzle with 1/2 cup maple syrup
Drizzle over the top of all 4 pears until all syrup is used
Sprinkle sides of pears with 2 Tbsp.coarse sugar.
Add 4 quarter size slices fresh ginger and 1 star anise to syrup.
Tent pears with foil and bake until tender for 50 minutes. Discard star anise.
Tip: Great with frozen yogurt or blue cheese.
